Professor Emeritus Robert Roth Memory Book
Luther Seminary gives thanks to God for the life and witness of Professor Emeritus Robert Roth.
Dr. Robert Roth, Professor of Systematic Theology and Dean Emeritus at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, died peacefully in his Deephaven home on March 23rd at the age of 91.
Remarkable details of his illustrious career and colorful character will be brought forth in the days to come. A lifelong supporter of the arts, ardent advocate for ecological stewardship, and fervent anti-war activist, with numerous publications covering a wide range of interests and concerns, his legacy will be celebrated by generations of devoted students, many dear friends, and a large, extended family.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Beckstrand, five children, Erik, Maren (Tom Hood), Maarja (David Cappetta), John (Julie Jersild), Sonja (David Frederick), and nine fine grandchildren. Memorial Services are pending at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, and at Luther Seminary.
I was blessed to have "Lutheran Confessions" and "Ethics" from Dr. Roth. He always challenged us to think critically and from a very Lutheran Christian perspective.

Bob Roth is the last of the old Northwestern faculty. He challenged all to think from a Christian perspective. His mentoring has guided me for a lifetime. All that lingers now is the Northwestern Building which was designed under his direction. We will miss your presence and your direction, Bob.
