Understanding by Design Resources

Here's material on facets of understanding that I worked with when developing my New Testament exegesis-teaching tool, Into the New Testament.

Greek

Here are some ideas for how to keep your Greek alive, or revive it after a time away.

Matthew

Here's a bibliography of resources for teaching and preaching the Gospel of Matthew.

Weblogs

Pilgrim Preaching is a blog specifically dedicated to "Keeping company with biblical texts and the people who hear and preach them." I write on lectionary texts here.

Balancing Pose is my life/work blog.

Into the New Testament

Into the New Testament is my 2003-04 sabbatical project, a web site to teach New Testament exegetical skills. It includes resource pages on nine different skills along with some problem-based learning problems for practicing those skills.

Speaking & Travel

I'll be spending November 7 with the women of United Lutheran Church, Red Wing, MN, preaching and teaching. We'll look at the gospel of Luke and especially the lectionary gospel texts for Advent this year.

I will be at the Society of Biblical Literature meeting in New Orleans November 20-23. On the 23rd, from 9:00-11:30 a.m., I'll be moderating a panel on distance learning.

I'm speaking at Luther Seminary Mid-Winter Convocation this year, January 13-15. (way better than the cover of the Rolling Stone). The theme is "Engaging Scripture in a Community of Faith." I'll be talking about how to foster biblical literacy and a biblical imagination in those who only hear/read the Bible in Sunday morning worship.
