The program committee invites members of the societies to submit proposals for papers at the meeting. Please send title, abstract (150-200 words), and any audio-visual needs (one paper to one convener, only), along with your name and address (e-mail/snail mail), by November 15, 2001, to the appropriate conveners, as follows:

STUDENT PAPERS

In addition to papers by faculty, other scholars, and graduate students, the Upper Midwest regional meeting also includes undergraduate papers, reflecting the preponderance of undergraduate institutions in the region. The papers may be integrated into topical sessions or grouped into sessions devoted to undergraduate presentations. Members are encouraged to nominate outstanding papers (maximum of two) from each institution. The program committee asks that faculty from each institution help with the screening.

NOTICE

This year our region will again participate in the Regional Scholar Program of the Society of Biblical Literature. Criteria for interested applicants are as follows:

 

Criteria for Regional Scholar Nominations

1.        Persons nominated must be at least ABD and no more than four years post-Ph.D.

2.        Under represented ethnic minorities and women are particularly encouraged to apply

3.        All nominees must read a paper at the Regional meeting from which they are nominated

4.        The nomination process within each Region will be refereed. A copy of the paper “as presented” must be submitted for consideration by the Regional award committee

5.        Only one nomination may be made by each Region

 

Any eligible SBL member who would like to apply for the regional scholar program whose paper is accepted for the regional meeting must submit four copies of the paper to the SBL regional director by March 1, 2002.
