Online Learning
Luther Seminary is committed to:
- working in the online environment
- improving and extending course offerings and
- experimenting with the rapidly changing possibilities digital
technology is developing.
We are increasingly offering our core curriculum online.
Generalizations About Online Classes
- Online classes vary in format, just as face-to-face
courses vary from one subject to another or from one faculty
member to another.
- Registration periods are the same as those for
on-campus classes
- Most online offerings follow the regular academic calendar
- Learners can be anywhere they have access to the
Internet
- Online classes occur within the time-frames of the
academic calendar
- Some classes require being online at the same time as
other students in classroom chat sessions
- Classes are writing intensive, since writing is the
chief medium of exchange.
- A high degree of student-to-student interaction is a
feature of most classes, a particular advantage of an online
environment.
- Courses are not less work (they may even be more work)
than face-to-face courses
Advantages About Taking Online Classes at Luther Seminary
- Geographic and employment restrictions can be mitigated,
especially in the early stages of seminary study. This is why
Luther Seminary currently focuses its online offerings in first
and second year courses.
- Online courses can be combined with short-term,
intensive on-campus courses offered in January, June and July.
- Commuting time is saved
- Current employment may be maintained
