HomeLab

HomeLab allows you to interact with the Luther Seminary network and access campus resources, such library databases, library e-reserves, your campus file storage, and BibleWorks, when you are not on campus.

As a remote desktop connection, HomeLab runs through a software client and allows you to log in and work from your home as if you are on a campus computer. HomeLab will work with either a PC or a Mac.

When to Use HomeLab

You must use HomeLab if you are accessing e-reserves remotely that connect directly to a database (such as ATLA, WorldCat or Gale). If you do not go through HomeLab, you will be unable to access the e-reserve.

You may also wish to consider using HomeLab in order to access software programs you do not have on your local machine, such as BibleWorks or EndNote. HomeLab will also allow you to access the most recent version of Office 2007 and use Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

HomeLab Limitations

HomeLab does have some limitations, however. Printers and other peripherals attached to your computer (such as speakers) will be unavailable to you. Also, any work that you need to save must be saved to your H:drive. If you would like your files also available on your local computer (e.g. you need to print them), you need to transfer them using SNAP.

HomeLab Accounts

HomeLab accounts are not automatically set up. Contact the Help Desk to request an account prior to your online class.
