Grading/Letter Grade Option and Additional Written Evaluations
Luther Seminary is on the pass-marginal-fail system for master of arts, master of sacred music, and master of divinity degree students.
Letter grades (A, B, C, D, and F) are required for master of theology, doctor of philosophy, and doctor of ministry degree students in 6000, 7000, and 8000 level courses. Letter grades are given for music courses in the master of sacred music degree program.
Forms for letter grades and for additional written evaluation from the instructor may be picked up from the stand outside the Registrar's Office. The instructor keeps the form and returns it to the Office of the Registrar at the end of the semester. Copies will be distributed to the students with their grade report notices.
Students planning on further graduate study are encouraged to elect the letter grade option. Students who want letter grades must notify the instructor within the first 10 days of a semester course or the first 5 days of a January Term, six-week session, or summer course.
Students who desire a written evaluation must notify the instructor within the first 10 days of the term or the first 5 days of the January term, six-week session, or summer course in which the course is taken. Written evaluations are encouraged.
All grades appear and remain on the official transcripts.
