Understanding SPOT
Last week, we released the new look, new purpose and new name of the
staff committee – a committee for you, the staff of Luther Seminary. Our new name may be a little confusing,
so we want to explain it
and our purpose a bit more. Breaking it down:
S – Seminary
That’s here! It’s where we work. Besides being a theological school, a
seminary is “a place or environment in which something is developed or
nurtured.” Working at Luther gives us a great opportunity to nurture, not
only the students and faculty and others we serve, but ourselves.
P – Professionals
That’s us! We’re not just staff workers; we are professionals. We have
trained and studied and learned to get to where we are. We work hard at
what we do to deliver a great product, whatever that product is. It makes
us who we are.
O – Organization
This is all of us as a whole. We make up the group of people who work at
Luther Seminary.
T – Team
That is this group, working to deliver to you what will hopefully help to
nurture you – spiritually, personally and professionally. We hope you will
join this group.
SPOT will be made up of at least five, but no more than seven, seminary
professionals (SPs) from any section on campus. For example, there could
be four from student services, one from the bookstore and two from the
library. Department divisions aren’t necessary. The group will represent
all SPs as a whole.
We’d ask that you would consider volunteering as a possible team member
before September 22. Decisions on the team will be made next week and team
members for the next year will be notified by September 29 and introduced
to all the SPs during the Fall Gathering October 2.
Thank you again for all your great work for the mission of Luther
Seminary. SPOT hopes it can serve you well.
Fall Gathering approaches
Mark your calendars now for the umpteenth annual Fall Gathering,
October 2 from 3:30-5 p.m. We’ll be meeting in the Olson Campus Center
Narthex to enjoy fall goodies and mingle and mix together as one: seminary
faculty and professionals.
As custom, we will be introducing the newest faculty and professionals
to everyone. This is our opportunity to greet and welcome the newest
members to Luther Seminary.
See you there!
