Sick Leave
A. Eligibility and Definition of Sick Leave
See the classification chart to determine if you are eligible for sick leave. Sick leave is paid leave to be used for any medically certified sickness or injury which prevents you from performing your normal work duties.
B. Amount of Sick Leave
You are entitled to one day of paid sick leave per month of employment. (Part-time or hourly receive a prorated day’s pay.)
C. Accrual of Sick Leave
The maximum amount of sick leave which you may accrue is 60 days.
D. Payment Limited to Sick Days
The seminary does not reimburse you for accrued sick leave upon termination of employment or at any other time.
E. Responsible Use of Accrued Sick Leave
You may use your accrued sick leave only (1) when your own illness prevents you from working; or (2) to care for your ill or injured children. Accrued sick leave can be used for no other reason.
Even if you are not eligible for paid sick leave, or if you have exhausted your sick leave, you must call your supervisor each day to report your illness. If your immediate supervisor is unavailable, a message is to be left which includes a phone number where you may be reached.
F. Verification of Illness
The seminary does not routinely require a doctor’s verification of illness. However, the seminary reserves the right to require such verification in any individual case at any time. The seminary also reserves the right to have you examined by a doctor selected by the seminary whose opinion shall be final in the event of a dispute.
