Do you know what a congregational endowment is and how it works? If you are planning to serve in a congregational setting either as an ordained or lay staff member, chances are good that soon after you begin serving you will find yourself in a conversation about a congregational endowment fund (a special fund where only the earnings are used to support the congregation’s mission). If you don't have any first hand experience with endowment funds, this is a good time to get some.
This March the Center for Stewardship Leaders and the Lutheran Community Foundation will be hosting an Endowment Lab for Luther Seminary students. This two-part lab will be on Monday, March 18 and Monday March 25 from 5-8pm in the Olson Campus Center, dinner will be included. Participants should attend both sessions.
The laboratory will include a hands-on approach to managing an endowment fund, including the opportunity to decide where the earnings from a $100,000.00 endowment will be given. You will also learn how congregation endowment funds operate, their proper place in a congregation’s ministry, and ways to use them to enhance the congregation’s mission and ministry.
Each session will include good food, good conversation and good learning. All participants who attend both sessions will receive a $25.00 gift card from the Luther Seminary Dining Services as the Center for Stewardship Leaders’ way of saying thanks for attending.
If you have further questions or want to register, please contact Chick Lane via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 651-641-3417. Please register by March 13, so we can have an accurate number for food preparation.
