Stone Soup is an old children's story.
Two poor travelers came into a European village and asked for food, but the suspicious villagers refused, claiming they hardly had enough for themselves. The travelers cleverly offered to make stone soup for everyone. The reluctant villagers agreed.
As the stones cooked in the water they suggested that potatoes would improve the soup so some villagers brought potatoes.
The travelers then suggested onions, tomatoes and other vegetables would help, so the villagers brought those.
On and on it continued until they were sitting down to a sumptuous feast for all.
The food was there. All they had to do was share.
