A Heart for Mission: President Richard Bliese Sees the Mission Field All Around Us On July 1, Dr. Richard Bliese officially became the president of Luther Seminary.

Notes from the Mission Field "come and see!" Luther Seminary has spent the whole year searching for leaders with a heart for mission and has found astounding results.

Commencement 2005 At it's 136th Commencement, May 22, the Luther Seminary class of 2005 was welcomed as colleagues in ministry.

Four Professors Recognized at Commencement Professors Sarah Henrich, Mary Hess, David Lose and Janet Ramsey were recognized at the 2005 commencement service.

Marbury Anderson Chair in Biblical Preaching Announced The newly created Marbury Anderson Chair in Biblical Preaching reflects the Andersons' love of excellent preaching and their belief that biblical preaching is the conerstone of a healthy church.

Pator Paul Youngdahl Honored with Good Shepherd Award Good Shepherd Award honors Pastor Paul Youngdahl's deep commitment to the vocations of young people.

Frerichs and Smith Receive Christus Lux Mundi Award Encircling church leaders with the disciplines of prayer and Christian biblical reflection, Professors Emeriti Wendell Frerichs and William Smith have prepared them to "go and make disciples of all nations."

•

Students Help "Put a Face on This Place" Part of the Called & Sent campaign events included hearing from a Luther Seminary student. The students were asked to talk about their own call story, and what Luther Seminary meant to them as they prepared for lives of service to the church.

Remembering Gerhard Forde Professor Emeritus, Gerhard O. Forde, '55, who died Aug. 9, 2005, revealed the love of Christ and assured us of God's grace with humor and wit. "...His is a voice that will not be silenced."

Professor Mons Teig Retires from Seminary "Worship is like going to the optometrist: you get all these different lenses to figure out which one will help you see more clearly. From the very poor to the very rich, we all need this same gospel. But we see the gospel differently through our life experience.Worship gives us different ways to see God." Mons Teig

Lull Named to Thrivent Fellows Program Patricia Lull, Dean of Student Services, is recognized for her dedication and leadership in Lutheran higher education.

Lose Named Academic Dean David Lose, Marbury E. Anderson Professor of Biblical Preaching, named Academic Dean.

FTE President Ann Svennungsen Finds Joy/Challenges in Call As the first woman president of The Fund for Theological Education (FTE), Pastor Ann Svennengsen continues to encourage young people to become pastors and to listen to where God is calling them.

•

A Donor Story: Brothers Lived Simply, Gave Greatly The Anderson brothers lived a simple life and left a great legacy.

•

Recent Grad Is One of Growing Number of New ELCA Missionaries The ELCA recently reported the highest number of new missionaries in recent years. Brian Konkol, a 2005 Luther grad, is one of the newest to accept their first call to serve abroad.
