Residence Halls

Topics on this page:

Living in Christian Community

The Seminary welcomes you and it is hoped that you will enjoy your home in the residence hall and will consider it a privilege to share in this aspect of the seminary community.

Even when living in Christian community, as we at the Seminary claim is our intent, it is necessary to establish some regulations and procedures so that we might live together in an orderly and appropriately loving way. It is to this end that the Housing Committee has established the policies in this handbook. Here you will find the information which should help make your residency a pleasant experience. If there are any additions or deletions that you feel are necessary, contact the head resident or the Housing Office.

We remind everyone that it is your responsibility to guard your neighbors' privacy and need for quiet, particularly during late evening and early morning hours.

Housing Administration

The Housing Director supervises the policy and the assignment of living spaces in seminary housing. In consultation with the students, the director promotes the cooperation and comfort of the students in seminary housing and posts off-campus housing notices on the housing board on the first floor of the Northwestern building. The Housing Office is located on the first floor of Northwestern Hall in the Student Services wing.

On-campus housing is provided and maintained by the seminary. Single student housing includes rooms in Bockman Hall, Stub Hall, and House 18. Each student is assigned to a private room furnished with bed, desk, chair, bookcase, dresser and mini-blinds. Bed and bath linens and other furnishings such as radios, and lamps are to be supplied by the occupant. (A few rooms have carpet.)

Head Residents

HEAD RESIDENT: Two students in Bockman and Stub are annually selected as head residents. The head residents in Bockman are also responsible for House 18. Head residents ensure that living conditions are satisfactory and serve as liaisons between dormitory residents and the seminary administration. Please contact them if you have any questions or problems.

Bockman Hall and House 18 head residents are Matt Metevelis, 651-641-3306, and Ingrid Hamilton, 651-641-3285.

Stub Hall Head Residents are Patricia Kraus, 651-641-3410, and Nabeel Ashraf, 651-641-3377.

Residence Hall Lease

A residence hall contract is required. The maximum contract time is nine (9) months, September through May. A separate contract is required for the summer.

Renewal of housing application forms must be filed each year. A separate lease is required for the summer.

Room Deposits and Fees

Keys for individual rooms and residence hall entrance doors are given out when the student arrives on campus. Duplicate copies may NOT be made. There is a $5 charge for replacing lost room keys. There is a $25 charge for replacing front door security keys.

A room deposit of $50 must accompany a signed contract to reserve a room. This deposit will be returned after satisfactory check out with the head resident and after the return of all keys.

Repair and upkeep of the physical property in each room is the responsibility of the student. Lounges, hallways, laundry facilities, and lavatories will be cleaned by seminary employees. However, living in community means cleaning up after oneself. Specifically, this means personal responsibility for trash removal to the dumpsters located in the parking lot of each residency, bathroom sink areas (not to be used for washing dishes), and the kitchen space. Prior to room assignment, inspection takes place to insure that the furnishings are complete and in good repair, and that the room is clean.

Board Plan

In order for the Seminary to be able to offer food service, it is mandatory that all persons living in the residence halls be on the board plan. Students in specific academic programs or employment situations which keep them off-campus most of the time may apply for a 50% reduction in the board plan. Arrangements should be made during the process of registration with the Business Office.

Payment of Rent

Rent is payable at the beginning of each semester in the Business Office on the first floor of Northwestern Hall.

CHARGES: Rental charges for rooms and apartments are printed in the catalog. Dormitory rent is due and payable at the time of registration.

Checking into Rooms

Forms for checking into rooms are furnished by the Housing Office and must be used when a room is occupied. These forms are to be returned to the Head Resident within five working days of the move-in date.

Forwarding Address

Your forwarding address must be on file in the Housing Office. This is for the purpose of forwarding mail and refunding your security deposit.

Renter’s Insurance

The seminary does not carry insurance for, and is not liable for, loss or damage to your personal belongings such as clothing, furniture, books, bicycles, computers, etc. It is highly recommended that you purchase renter's insurance.

Parking

Everyone must register their car/s (no charge) with the Business Office. Parking tags will be issued at that time.

Security Systems

An entrance lock system is installed in each residence hall to provide building security. Adequate security is dependent upon the doors being closed and locked. Consequently, appropriate arrangements should be made by the residents for allowing their visitors to enter the building.

Doors are not to be propped open.
