Rules and Responsibilities

Topics on this page:

Changing room assignments

Residents are not permitted to change rooms or room assignments during the term of the lease without prior authorization from the Housing Office. There is a $50 administrative fee for changing dorm rooms.

Locks

Tampering with locks in student rooms or other areas and/or altering or duplication of keys is strictly prohibited. There is a minimum $5 charge for lost room keys and a $25 charge for lost building security keys.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in Bockman Hall and House 18. Read the seminary no-smoking policy.

Pets

Occupants of seminary residence halls may not keep animals on seminary property as pets or for any other reason.

Cooking

The use of cooking equipment (including microwaves) and freezers in rooms that are not provided with kitchen facilities is prohibited.

Appliances

Electrical appliances which are permitted include: fans, radios, televisions, CD and tape players, coffee makers, refrigerators no larger than 3½ cubic feet, and computers.

Air conditioners are allowed in Bockman but must be approved in the Housing Office and installed by the maintenance crew. There is a $50 charge for installation and usage.

Quiet time

"Quiet time" is observed in all residence halls between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Please do not have your stereos and televisions turned up between these times. Please be considerate of your neighbor's need for this "quiet time."

Physical Changes/Repairs

If there is a need for repairs in your room, or in the public areas of the buildings, please notify your Head Resident.

Screens and windows are not to be removed from the residence hall rooms, and must be kept closed during the heating season. Furniture provided by the seminary in each room is to remain in that room unless the Head Resident authorizes its removal.

Laundry

Laundries equipped with coin washers and dryers are provided in the residence halls. House 18 residents may use the laundry in Bockman Hall. These are to be used with care and consideration for other residents. Do not use the washers for dyeing. To avoid costly repair bills for the seminary, please do not overload the washing machines; and please assist in keeping the area clean.

Fire safety

City fire regulations prohibit motorcycles, motorbikes, or equipment with internal combustion engines in the residence halls. This regulation extends to any part of, or full unit of, the above equipment regardless of conditions met or precautions taken.

Fire Alarms

If the fire alarm(s) sounds, exit the building immediately. Do not wait for the Head Resident to ask you to leave. Do not assume that it's a false alarm; always believe that it is a fire. In the case of a fire, activate the fire alarm and call 9-911. Fire extinguishers are located throughout the dorms for small, contained fires. Exit from the building.

Threatening Weather

In the event of a tornado alert or threatening storm, take cover in the basement. Stay clear of windows. Residents in Bockman Hall may also take shelter in the tunnel. LDR residents should contact the Head Resident for information concerning safety during storms. Each head resident in seminary housing has been provided with a severe weather kit: weather radio, lantern and batteries. WCCO 830 AM is the best source for current weather.
