Working Preacher Presents:
The Craft of Preaching

Oct. 1-3, 2018
Luther Seminary

Do you ever wonder what’s “behind the scenes” of some of the sermons you get to hear at big preaching conferences with “famous” preachers? Have you always wanted a practical preaching conference where you can learn some new “how-to’s” for constructing a sermon and honing your homiletical skills?

“Working Preacher Presents: The Craft of Preaching” will do that and more. Three top teachers of preaching will preach a sermon and tell you how they got there, with time for Q&A. Workshops will be hands-on with conference participants preaching toward a specific skill and getting individual feedback. There is an optional Master Class available for preachers seeking one-on-one feedback on their preaching.

  • Amy Butler, Senior Minister and first woman to serve at the helm of the Riverside Church, New York City, N.Y.
  • Marvin McMickle, President, Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program & Professor of African American Religious Studies, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, Rochester, New York.
  • Frank Thomas, Nettie Sweeney and Hugh Th. Miller Professor of Homiletics and Director of the Academy of Preaching and Celebration.

The conference will be hosted by Karoline Lewis, Associate Professor of Biblical Preaching and The Marbury E. Anderson Chair of Biblical Preaching, Luther Seminary.

Foundational, collegial and encouraging, this conference will be a unique opportunity to tend to the craft of your preaching among peers, old and new.

An optional Master Class is available during Monday or Tuesday's workshop sessions. They should plan to arrive by 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, for a Peer Group Meeting before opening worship.
