Working Preacher Presents:
The Craft of Preaching

Oct. 1-3, 2018
Olson Campus Center
Luther Seminary

How long has it been since you actually listened to sermons instead of delivering them over and over?

You may need to slow down or pause to refine your preaching.

"Working Preacher Presents: The Craft of Preaching" is an event for you to:

  • hear sermons from top preachers
  • ask questions and discuss with leaders from around the country
  • gain practical tools and feedback in workshops

Join the optional Master Class, which gives you a chance to receive feedback on sermons you and your peers deliver to instructors in an encouraging environment. Space is limited so participants can benefit from individual comments and advice.

Speakers

  • Amy Butler, Senior Minister Riverside Church, New York City
  • Marvin McMickle, President, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, Rochester, N.Y.
  • Frank Thomas, Professor, Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis

The conference will be hosted by Karoline Lewis, Associate Professor of Biblical Preaching and The Marbury E. Anderson Chair of Biblical Preaching, Luther Seminary.

Online and phone registration is closed.

Walk-in registration (including for Master Classes) is available beginning at 9 a.m. in the Olson Campus Center, 1490 Fulham Street in St. Paul. The conference begins at 11 a.m. with worship. (Master Class participants have a peer group meeting at 9:45 a.m.)

Master Class (optional)

An optional Master Class is available during Monday or Tuesday's workshop sessions. Master Class participants are required to bring a prepared sermon and they will preach it, or a portion of it, to a small group (no more than five others) and receive feedback from the homiletician of their choosing. Master Class participants pay $125 additional and should select only one time slot when registering. They should plan to arrive by 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, for a Peer Group Meeting before opening worship.

Lay Preaching Track

The Lay Preacher Master Class is available for up to 12 lay preachers (non-rostered leaders with preaching responsibilities in their congregations). Those who qualify for this program should select one Lay Preacher Master Class below and apply the coupon for Lay Preachers to receive a discounted rate of $125 total for conference and master class.
