Queen of the Canned Goods
During Minnesota Foodshare month in March, Augustana Lutheran Church in West St. Paul joined in friendly competition with St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, also in West St. Paul, to see which congregation could raise the most food.
Just to spice things up a little more, Augustana Intern Ingrid Arneson Rasmussen suggested a competition between the pastors of Augustana to see which one of them could get the most food donated in their name. So it was Team Mark (for Pastor Mark Aune) against Team Megan (for Pastor Megan Torgerson).
But the congregation rebelled. It seems that people believed there should also be a Team Ingrid!
You can see where this is going. Team Ingrid trounced the competition, eventually accounting for 12,000 of the 18,000 pounds of food raised.
On April 15 Intern Ingrid was crowned “Queen of the Canned Goods”, and presented with a crown, a scepter, and a bouquet of roses!
Of course, the real winners were the hungry people who make use of the Neighbors food shelf in South St. Paul, which received over 32,000 pounds of food from Augustana, St. Stephen’s, and Amazing Grace Lutheran Church of Inver Grove Heights.
