It is with great joy and anticipation that we welcome David Scherer as the new Christian Public Leader Coordinator and Karen Gieseke as our new Contextual Learning Associate.
David Scherer is a 2015 Luther Seminary graduate with an M.A. in Congregational Missional Leadership and an urban ministry developer with more than fifteen years of local experience. In this half-time position, David will coordinate ministry placements and the facilitation of the Christian Public Leader courses. We welcomed David August 24, as he picks up the work that I previously administrated in my former position.
Karen Gieseke, also a Luther Seminary graduate, M.A. in Children, Youth and Family Ministry in 2012, also joined our team on September 7. As the Contextual Learning Associate, Karen will manage the internship cluster meetings and various other projects related to coaching teams and providing resources for ongoing leadership development. Karen joins us after serving congregational leaders in the ELCA Southeastern Minnesota Synod as an assistant to the bishop.
As we say hello to new colleagues, we need to say goodbye to two others. We give thanks for the ministry and service of Steve McKinley and Julie Josund. Both Steve and Julie have decided to wind down their time as deployed associates with Luther Seminary. Steve and Julie have brought tremendous gifts of leadership and wisdom to interns and supervisors as they have led internship cluster meetings in ELCA Regions 1 and 3 and coached internship teams over many years. Please join me in thanking Steve and Julie for their commitment and contributions to Luther Seminary.
