Mark Granquist, associate professor of church history, released his newest book, “Lutherans in America,” on Jan. 1. This work takes the reader on a tour through the full history of Lutheranism in America, from its colonial inception to the modern day, and depicts the ways in which America was shaped by Lutheranism and vice versa. The book examines the politics and piety of American Lutherans by sharing of broad histories and intimate, personal experiences. Granquist also includes a set of charts, images and sidebars which augment the readers’ understanding and experience of Lutheranism in America. The 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation is only two years away, and this book stands as an excellent resource for finding one’s own identity in the midst of the Protestant movement.
Luther Seminary will host Mark Granquist as he presents a public reading and signing of “Lutherans in America” on Thurs., Oct. 29 from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Gullixson Hall library reading room. Leading up to Granquist’s reading and signing, the library staff will also open the Rare Book Room from 12-3 p.m. so that community members may enjoy the exceptional works collected there.
“Lutherans in America” is available from the Luther Seminary bookstore for the discounted price of $60.
