The Story and Mission of Exodus Lending: What Talking About Money in Church Can Do

A few years ago, leaders at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church launched Exodus Lending, an organization that offers freedom to borrowers by refinancing payday loans at a 0 percent interest rate, in an effort to combat the injustice of local payday lending institutions. Hear how the pastor and community organization led Holy Trinity throughout this process, and how the Spirit is continuing to work as the congregation wrestles with the how to address the payday lending companies in their neighborhood.
Propel: Good Stewardship and Greater Generosity

Speaker: Clayton L. Smith, Executive Pastor of Generosity and the Church Foundation, Church of the Resurrection, Kansas City
Smith will give an overview of his new book, “Propel,” in a way that inspires churches to step forward the leadership of generosity. Clayton will share personal anecdotes and proven techniques that will give churches of all sizes the tools to right-size ministries of giving and generosity for their own contexts.
Practicing Bad Stewardship: Jesus’ Reign and the End of White Supremacy

Speaker: Drew G. I. Hart, Ph.D. student, professor, writer and activist
Drew Hart, theologian, author and former pastor, will explore the idea of white privilege and why it frequently fails to provide a robust framework which aids white people towards authentic repentance. While considering the significance of Jesus’ life, Hart will consider how a kind of reckless stewardship of whiteness can potentially provide an unconsidered path forward towards the new humanity in Christ.
