For the past 15 years, Luther Seminary has sent out a daily devotional called God Pause. These devotions, written by alums of Luther Seminary, serve our readers by helping them to reflect devotionally on the following Sunday’s assigned lectionary readings. So far, more than 600 alums from all across the country and the world have contributed to roughly 5,475 daily devotions.
Today, more than 15,000 people subscribe to the God Pause devotional, and many more people check in via the website each day. Diane Hummon, director of marketing and communications at Luther Seminary says, “We are honored and privileged to share the gospel of Christ with thousands of people on a daily basis through God Pause. We have heard hundreds of stories of ways that people’s lives have been meaningfully touched by this daily devotion. It is truly amazing how the Holy Spirit works through God Pause.”
One of those people whose life has been touched by God Pause is Roger Eggen, a member of the board of trustees of Luther Seminary. Roger, like many, has included God Pause as a daily part of his life for the last seven years or so. For Roger, God Pause is an important part of his day. Before he retired, Roger traveled a lot, and in retirement he and his wife continue to be active and busy. God Pause is one way in which they cultivate connection in their marriage. “We both read the God Pause daily devotion separately,” Roger explains, “and then when we catch up together later to discuss what was meaningful to us. So it has led us to conversations that are personal and spiritual in a way.” In addition to its ability to bring people together, Roger states, “God Pause is a natural way to satisfy your own yearnings for scripture and to help one another. It’s a simple, easy way to have some continuity with the word of God.”
As we look forward with excitement toward our next 15 years of God Pause, we give thanks to the many alumni and faculty who have given generously of their time to write their inspiring daily devotions.
Most of all, we want to thank our loyal and dedicated readers who subscribe via email or visit our website regularly. We are so glad to be able to provide this service for you and hope to do so for many years to come!
