Ellen F. Davis, interim dean and Amos Ragan Kearns Professor of Bible and Practical Theology at Duke Divinity School, will give this year’s Rutlen lecture on faith and creation. Davis will present “Land as Kin: Reimagining Our Humanity through the Bible.” Following the lecture will be a conversation with Peabody Award winner and New York Times bestselling author Krista Tippett.
Ellen F. Davis is the author of ten books and many articles. One of the focuses of her research is how faith communities use biblical interpretation in their responses to the environmental crisis. In October 2016, she published “Preaching the Luminous Word,” a collection of her sermons and essays. In 2014, Davis explored the prophetic role in “Biblical Prophecy: Perspectives for Christian Theology, Discipleship and Ministry.” Her book “Scripture, Culture, and Agriculture: An Agrarian Reading of the Bible” interprets contemporary industrial agriculture and food production through a look at the Bible’s presentation of land and human relationships.
Please join us for this event on April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Olson Campus Center’s Chapel of the Incarnation.
