“Luther gave me a splendid theological education. It gave me a balance of what it means to serve the church,” loyal Luther Seminary donor Frank Brocker, ’62, said.
He expresses his thanks for the education he received at Luther Seminary through annual gifts to the seminary’s Sustaining Fund. In addition, Brocker and his wife, Barbara, are members of Luther Seminary’s Heritage Society Supporting Luther’s mission to prepare Christian leaders is important to the Brockers, whose daughter and son-in-law are also both Luther Seminary grads.
“In an era of eroding confidence in the church, it is important to keep faith in the seminaries because that is the starting point,” Brocker says.
“We need strong leaders. We need to train future leaders to best use their gifts for ministry, then turn them loose prepared to effectively serve their communities.”
The Brockers made an even greater impact on the future of the church when they set up a charitable gift annuity, payable to Luther upon their deaths.
“We wanted to give an estate gift to offer the seminary something it can count on,” Brocker says. “When we’re gone, that gift will be there for the seminary. When you have several people giving this type of gift, it can make a significant impact.”
