Gather nine skilled bakers. Add 356 pounds of flour, 2 1/2 gallons of oil, 5 1/2 gallons each of honey and molasses and eight pounds each of salt and baking powder. Mix together in a kitchen for 40 hours over the course of five days and you have the perfect recipe for 1,900 loaves of communion bread.
Luther Seminary’s dining services staff baked and donated all the communion bread for the 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans. Want to see how they did it? Take a look at our bread-baking operation on Flickr.
