Luther Seminary is now offering a new Master of Arts degree! With an emphasis on Studies in Lutheran Ministries, this new degree will meet the needs of affiliate students and will provide an educational pathway for people already in or interested in ELCA ministry.
For affiliate track students:
For students completing their M.Div. at a non-ELCA seminary, they can complete the requirements for the Lutheran year through the M.A. (SLM) degree. Students can transfer 8.0 courses (24 credits) from their M.Div. degree towards the MA (SLM) degree. The remaining courses for the degree will meet the candidacy requirements, as well as the degree requirements. The program has been designed to provide maximum flexibility with elective options in history, Bible, theology and leadership.
Students completing their Lutheran year requirements through this program will be eligible for scholarships and financial aid.
For those involved, or that plan to be involved, in ministry in a Lutheran setting:
The MA (SLM) degree will provide a robust foundation for work in a Lutheran setting through the coursework and the writing or ministry project. Students will have flexibility through the use of electives to tailor this degree to meet their unique needs. This is a wonderful degree option for:
- Church musicians who yearn to deepen their understanding of the Lutheran tradition
- Longtime confirmation teachers who want to know more about their faith
- Church employees who want to strengthen their knowledge of the church
- Diaconal and Synodically Authorized Ministers
We are excited about this new degree at Luther and what it can provide for affiliate students and for leaders in the church. For more information, visit us online.
