Norman Wente came to Luther Seminary as librarian in 1968 and was given the rank of professor ten years later.\u00a0 He had been assistant circulation librarian at the University of Illinois in 1966-67.<\/p>\n
Ordained in 1957, Wente was pastor of St. James Lutheran Church in Western Spring, Ill. (1957-62), and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dixon, Ill. (1962-65).\u00a0 He also served as interim pastor at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Elliot, Ill. (1965-66).<\/p>\n
As a member of the advisory committee of the Reformation Research Library Project of Lutheran Brotherhood since 1983, and as director since 1986, Wente has been instrumental in the development and direction of the extensive collection of microfilmed research documents housed in the seminary’s Rare Book Room.\u00a0 The collection dates from 1500 to 1648 and includes works by English and continental Protestant and Catholic reformers.<\/p>\n
He also was the local chair and coordinated arrangements for the Eighth International Luther Congress on the Luther Seminary campus in 1993.
\nWente was a scholar at the Institut Oecumenique de Recherches Theologuiques in Jerusalem in 1982.\u00a0 He has been a library consultant for Faculdade Teologia, Sao Leopoldo, Brazil (1981), and in Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Australia (1989).<\/p>\n
He is affiliated with the American Theological Association, the Minnesota Theological Library Association, the Lutheran Historical Conference, and the 16th Century Conference.<\/p>\n
A cum laude graduate of Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, in 1953, he received the M.Div. degree from Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, in 1957.\u00a0 He earned the M.S. degree at the University of Illinois in 1967, and the Specialist Certificate in Library Science at the University of Minnesota in 1983.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
