(Luther Seminary)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Profile<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jennifer Pietz is Associate Professor of New Testament and has been teaching at Luther since 2020. Prior to this, she taught in Augsburg University\u2019s Religion Department and Emory University\u2019s Candler School of Theology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After earning a B.A. from Coe College (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">summa cum laude<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Pietz began pursuing a call to ministry that includes years of service with ministries in Mexico and in Spanish-speaking congregations in the Twin Cities. Her commitment to helping people encounter the transformative power of the gospel through Scripture led her to pursue a vocation as a scholar and teacher. She is also an ordained Lutheran minister. Before earning her M.Div. from Luther Seminary and Ph.D. from Emory University, Pietz earned an A.A.S degree in Photography and Digital Imaging from Minneapolis Community and Technical College to support her use of photography and art in ministry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pietz\u2019s first book is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mary Magdalene, La Malinche, and the Ethics of Interpretation<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Bloomsbury\/Fortress Academic). It reflects her research and teaching interests in hermeneutics, women\u2019s roles in the Bible and society, and Latin American history and culture. She has also authored a Bible study, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together by Grace:<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John: \u201cI Am\u201d Sayings<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Augsburg Fortress) and articles for the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oxford\u00a0Research Encyclopedia of Gender and Women&#8217;s History<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Word &amp; World<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currents in Theology &amp; Mission<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
