Peace, Perfect Peace, Jr. Trinity Hymnal, 702
Devotion
Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.
Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.
Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus' bosom naught but calm is found.
Peace, perfect peace, ’mid suffering’s sharpest throes?
The sympathy of Jesus breathes repose.
Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away?
In Jesus' keeping we are safe, and they.
Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.
Peace, perfect peace, death shad'wing us and ours?
Jesus has vanquished death and all its pow'rs.
It is enough: earth's struggles soon shall cease,
And Jesus calls us to Heav'n’s perfect peace.
Peace, perfect peace. Don't we all yearn for that? All the while believing it is impossible when we look around our world and our daily lives. But our yearning too quickly leaves out what God has done and what God can do. Jesus suffered and died so we might be saved. Ascension Day has come and gone. His work is over. This hymn reminds us of the worth of his gift. How can we have peace in this dark world of sin? Of course! "The blood of Jesus whispers peace within." Many of us women are sad this Mother's Day as we watch families taking Mom out to celebrate while we sit alone. But grown children are often living far away and are busy with their own families. So where do we find peace today with our loved ones far away? "In Jesus' keeping we are safe, and they." Or perhaps pain and rejection is the message for you today. Hang in there with Jesus, who knows our hearts, sustains us, loves us without fail and waits to enfold us all in "Heav'n's perfect peace."
Prayer
Lord, thank you for giving me hope when my life becomes difficult, peace when I see only darkness and joy when I fully comprehend that you are truly all I need. Amen.
