Verse 1Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.

Verse 3If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?
Verse 4But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.
Verse 5I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;
Verse 6my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning.
Verse 7O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem.
Verse 8It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Devotion
The taunting does not end with that first sin. The world taunts us until we find ourselves steeped in darkness and sadness. The world seeks ways to separate us from God's love. Under the pressure of such taunts, we find ourselves waiting for God to act. We recognize, with the psalmist, that if God keeps record of all our sins, we are done for. We also need to recognize that God wants to forgive us so that we might see who God is. As we are taunted by the world, we cry out to God who will redeem and forgive.
Prayer
Loving God, we know you will save us as surely as the sun will rise. Give us faith to wait for you in hope as we suffer the taunting of the world that distracts us from your grace. Amen.
