Luther Seminary and PLTS, Berkeley, Calif., were awarded a $1 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to work collaboratively in the areas of recruitment and the ELCA’s Theological Education for Emerging Ministries (TEEM) program. The two seminaries form the Western Mission Cluster of the ELCA, which works to provide theological education to the western half of the United States. Through the Lilly grant, Luther and PLTS intend to draw into church vocations more promising young people, students of color, and more people who are willing and able to minister in under-served areas of the church. The grant, “Creating a Culture of Call for the 21st Century,” will help the two seminaries strengthen the existing network of institutions essential for the calling of a new generation of theologically formed leaders in the West.
