Student Creates Own Internship Experience at Young Mission Churches
Rob James’ internship is unique, not just because he is serving two young Lutheran congregations, Spirit of Joy Church, in Buffalo, Minn., and Alleluia! Church in St. Michael, Minn. James, a third-year master of divinity student at Luther specializing in congregational mission and leadership, wanted experience at a young mission church and to be part of its development. Since the ELCA doesn’t have internships at mission sites, James created his own. He approached the two churches himself, and began raising the funds necessary for his placement, receiving help from his home church and individual supporters. “It has been a slow start because I’m in two churches and two communities,” James says. “But both congregations have embraced me as an intern, they’ve loved teaching me.”

Tanzanian Scholar is First Schiotz International Professor
The Rev. Dr. Richard Lubawa, ’97, from Iringa, Tanzania, has been chosen as the first visiting international professor under a new program coordinated by the Global Mission Institute and funded by the Schiotz Fund Endowment.
During his nine-month stay, he will teach, do research, and explore how international mission partnerships affect the lives of the people and congregations involved. He is teaching two courses at Luther Seminary: “Church and State in an African Context” and “Confessing Christ in Africa.” He will be the keynote speaker at the www.luthersem.edu/gmi/almc [Annual Lutheran Mission Conference] at Luther Seminary on March 19.
New Faithfulness in Ministry Cross Award Criteria Reflect Changes in Ministry

In 1990 the Luther Seminary Alumni/ae Council introduced the https://www.luthersem.edu/alums/council/fimca/fim.asp [Faithfulness in Ministry Cross Award] to honor the ministries of all alumni/ae.
Since its inception, there have been many changes in congregations, communities and the very nature of ministry. In response to this, the Council will award three Faithfulness in Ministry crosses to individuals who graduated:
* Within the past 10 years
* Within 25 years
* More than 25 years ago

Presidential Search Update
The Presidential Search Committee has received 81 names in response to the Dec. 20 call for recommendations, nominations and applications. This number shows strong interest in Luther Seminary and a sense of shared responsibility for the search process.
The Search Committee began screening names in January and that process continues. The committee expects to focus its attention on a limited number of individuals in the coming weeks.
