In March, Luther Seminary faculty, staff and students welcomed 56 students to Scholarship Weekend. Of the 56 attendees, 43 are pursuing Master of Divinity degrees, 11 are Master of Arts students and two are working toward Master of Sacred Music degrees.
Incoming student Mariel Vinge expressed thanks for the scholarship dollars she received. “Thank you for extending the opportunity to pursue my vision for the church with the promise of continued financial support,” she said. “The Presidential Scholarship definitely affirms my call and direction. I look forward to putting this vision into motion by attending Luther Seminary this fall.”
“We are so excited about the opportunity to give out these scholarships, thanks to the generosity of our donors,” said Sara Wilhelm Garbers, director of admissions.
These scholarships make it easier for students to say, “Yes,” to God’s call. The awarding of scholarship dollars also fulfills a goal of Luther Seminary’s strategic plan, to raise up the best and brightest leaders to serve the church.
During Scholarship Weekend, students had the opportunity to:
- Build community with each other
- Get a firsthand look at Luther
- Hear from the president and associate dean
- Have dinner with faculty, staff and current students
- Tour campus
- Interview with a panel
- Write an essay
- Participate in panel conversations about life at Luther
In total, more than $453,000 in scholarships were awarded. These funds came from Presidential, Leadership, Trustee and Wallace scholarships, which were made possible by donor support. This year, more than $2 million in scholarships will be awarded to future church leaders at Luther Seminary.
“It was an exciting time,” said Wilhelm Garbers. “And we are excited about God’s work in the church as evidenced through this amazing group!”
