A Luther Seminary graduate recently made history. The Rev. Dr. Betsy Miller, ’10, of Lake Mills, Wis., was elected in June as president of the Provincial Elders’ Conference of the Moravian Church Northern Province. She is the first woman to hold the position in the history of the Northern Province. The Northern Province encompasses 95 congregations from Maryland to Alberta, Canada.<\/p>\n
“I’m overwhelmed, honored and humbled to be elected to this position,” said Miller at her election.<\/p>\n
The PEC is the highest governing board of the Moravian Church, Northern Province. During her four-year term, Miller will provide administrative leadership to congregations and program agencies.<\/p>\n
She credits the education she received in the Doctor of Ministry in Congregational Mission and Leadership program as having a tremendous impact on her life and that of the wider Moravian Church.<\/p>\n
“The D.Min. program shaped my theology and gave me a missional ecclesiology that I have shared wherever possible throughout the denomination,” wrote Miller in an e-mail. “The program also honed my leadership skills and gave me a collaborative model for learning.”<\/p>\n
“I believe both of these gifts contributed to my election, as people heard a new imagination of what it means to be the church today.”<\/p>\n
