Pastors and lay leaders came to Mid-Winter Convocation, Jan. 14-16, to learn how to help their congregations read the Bible for the sake of the world.<\/p>\n<p>Convocation participants heard from preeminent Old Testament scholars <strong>Walter Brueggemann<\/strong>, professor emeritus of Columbia Theological Seminary, and <strong>Terence E. Fretheim<\/strong>, Elva B. Lovell Professor of Old Testament at Luther Seminary. Video of each of the keynote presentations and chapels are available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luthersem.edu\/convo\">www.luthersem.edu\/convo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the keynote presentations, the more than 600 Convocation attendees heard from <strong>Greg Mortenson<\/strong>, author of the New York Times bestseller, &#8220;Three Cups of Tea.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Convocation participants were encouraged to take part in the Convocation Challenge prior to and during the event. During Convocation 2008, participants were challenged to engage Scripture in new ways in their congregations&#8217; daily lives. Ideas were shared Friday morning during the Book of Faith breakfast.
