President Emeritus David Tiede announced the newly created Marbury Anderson Chair in Biblical Preaching at this year’s commencement ceremony. It is given by Bradbury and Janet Anderson in honor of Brad’s father, the Rev. Marbury E. Anderson. The chair reflects the Andersons’ love of excellent preaching and their belief that biblical preaching is the cornerstone of a vital, healthy church.<\/p>\n

A graduate of Augustana Theological Seminary, Rock Island, Ill., Pastor Anderson actively served for 43 years in Lutheran congregations in Illinois, Texas, Colorado and Minnesota. His fine preaching continues to inspire and challenge parishioners.<\/p>\n

“Having felt through the years that the greatest challenge and most important work as a pastor was the sermon, I’m especially thrilled by Brad and Janet’s action, which came as such a surprise,” said Anderson of the chair.<\/p>\n

Pastor Anderson and his wife, Sylvia, have been married for 57 years and have a son and daughter, and a son who died in 1992. They have five grandchildren.<\/p>\n

Janet Anderson, a retired social worker, is chair of Luther Seminary’s Foundation Board of Trustees. Brad Anderson is CEO of Best Buy, Inc., headquartered in the Twin Cities. The Andersons have two sons, Eric and Jeremy.<\/p>\n

Dr. David J. Lose, associate professor of homiletics and newly named academic dean, was named to the chair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
