{"id":7557,"date":"2023-11-20T17:26:40","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T17:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.luthersem.edu\/story\/?p=7557"},"modified":"2023-11-20T17:50:59","modified_gmt":"2023-11-20T17:50:59","slug":"land-acknowledgement-to-be-in-right-relationship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.luthersem.edu\/story\/2023\/11\/20\/land-acknowledgement-to-be-in-right-relationship\/","title":{"rendered":"Land acknowledgement:  \u2018To be in right relationship\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In May, Luther Seminary adopted a land acknowledgement statement to be read by the president at the opening convocation of each academic year and at commencement:<\/p>\n<div style=\"border-left: solid 5px #FA4616; margin-left: : 45px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-top: 15px; padding-left: 15px;\"><em>Luther Seminary is on Min\u00ed S\u00f3ta Makh\u00f3\u010dhe, the homelands of the Dakh\u00f3ta Oy\u00e1te. The Ojibwe, Ho-Chunk, Cheyenne, Oto, Iowa, and the Sac &amp; Fox also inhabited Minnesota land. We recognize that God calls all to be in right relationship with their neighbors, that the tribes are sovereign nations, that there is a history of broken treaties and broken trust, and that there is much reconciling work to be done. As Christians, we also recognize that in Christ there is new life, forgiveness, and hope for mending what is broken.
