A schedule overview

Below is an overview schedule for 2018. A detailed schedule will be available at registration. 

Monday, August 27

8:30 a.m.

Breakfast & Registration

Pick up your nametag, schedule, parking pass, and student ID, and take time to get to know campus staff and student groups.

9:30 a.m.

Welcome, Devotion, Introductions

10:15 a.m. Academic Overview Faculty and staff will review your curriculum requirements, review registration and course planning resources, and Moodle (Luther's online learning platform).
11:00 a.m. Program Concentrations Dive deeper into the specifics of your degree program and concentration.
11:30 a.m. Lunch with Faculty  
12:30 p.m. Community Life Overview Explore what it means to be a member of the Luther Seminary community. Student panel discussion moderated by Sarah Luedtke-Jones, Interim Dean of Students.
2:00 pm. Contextual Learning  At Luther Seminary, we believe that "contextualization gives theology hands." (Fernando Arzola) Discover the role of contextual learning in your theological education at Luther, and meet some of the people that will accompany you along the way.

Creating a Welcoming Community

Cup of Blessing

Come as we gather around Christ’s table for Holy Communion and a common meal.

Tuesday, August 28

7:00 a.m.

Yoga (optional)

Bring a mat or towel and wear comfortable clothing.

8:00 a.m.

Library Breakfast and Tours

Enjoy an al fresco continental breakfast on the plaza in front of Gullixson Hall. Mini-tours of the library and archives will be offered at 10-minute intervals.

9:00 am

Financial Nuts & Bolts of Seminary

Learn how to navigate your student account and finance your education with loans, grants and scholarships. Navigating finances from a theological perspective will also be addressed.

Lunch with Staff


12:45 pm

Boundary Workshop

Boundary Workshops focus on boundary issues leaders face in faith communities. Completion of this workshop is required for students in all degree programs prior to internship placement or graduation.

5:30 pm

Attend the
MN State Fair!

Join other new students at "The Great Minnesota Get-Together." The MN State Fair is the largest state fair in the United States by average daily attendance and is within walking distance from the seminary. 


Sunday, September 9

 4:30-6:30 pm

Back to School Block Party & Donation Drive!

All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend the Back to School Block Party and Donation Drive for the 2018-19 school year!  Bring your family and get to know more of your fellow seminarians and seminary community. Donations will be collected for Lutheran Social Services' "Blizzard Boxes."
