EndNote Database Searching

Library Catalogs

Other schools allow you to search their catalog for free. Try the Library of Congress!

In EndNote go to Tools -> Online Search

2. When the dialog box opens up Choose the library catalog you'd like to search.

Searching Outside Databases

One great EndNote feature is to search databases from inside your EndNote library and add resources without typing. Database searching is limited to freely available or databases that Luther Seminary subscribes to. A partial list follows.

Connection files for these databases (purchased from our vendor EBSCO). Right click to download:
Academic Search Premier/EBSCO
Catholic Periodical and Literature Index
Family & Society Studies Worldwide
New Testament Abstracts
Old Testament Abstracts

Place the connection file in your EndNote software Connections Folder:

C:\Program Files\EndNoteversion\Connections

1. In EndNote go to Tools -> Online Search

2. When the dialog box opens up Choose the database.

Exporting Citations From Databases

Some databases require that you search --> then export the citations you are interested in. Sometimes you also have to go the extra step of importing them into EndNote. This varies with operating systems. If importing be sure to use the correct filter. When exporting, use the RIS option, check your desktop for the file (e.g., yourfile.ris), then import yourfile.ris into EndNote.
