Lois Malcolm, associate professor of systematic theology, recommends two books: “Resurrection and the Restoration of Israel: The Ultimate Victory of the God of Life” by Jon Levenson and “Resurrection: The Power of God for Christians and Jews” by Levenson and Kevin Madigan.
“Both books should be of interest to any Christian who seeks to understand the meaning of Christ’s resurrection and God’s power to restore life from death,” says Malcolm.
“In the first, Levenson, a Jew, examines the Jewish origins of the doctrine of the resurrection of the dead, arguing that ancient rabbis were keenly committed to the belief that God would restore the deserving dead to life. The second book, co-authored with a Christian (Madigan), offers a new understanding of Jewish-Christian relations and of the profound links between the two faiths.”
