Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN 55407 - MAP
Bethel has great energy in implementing our vision of "...amplifying God's grace, nourishing God's creation, reaching out and building community." We are open to new ideas and experiences. We would love to learn from students as much as students might want to learn from us. Some areas of ministry include: environmental justice, reconciling in Christ, shared ministry/building with two non-profit organizations, two Hispanic congregations, service and justice, community outreach, sharing resources with our neighborhood, and our radical welcome! Our Mission Council is currently exploring new ministries as it relates to the church of the future. Our Board of Administrators are working on the completion of projects like a renewal of our sanctuary, putting solar panels on our roof, and installing rain gardens throughout our property. Our newly energized Children, Youth and Family Committee have created and are working on our new mission for faith formation: "Bridging generations to model, equip and encourage a foundation of trust in God's story." We are a growing congregation in the middle of South Minneapolis and we would love to work with you!

Elk River Lutheran Church, Elk River, Minnesota 55330 - MAP
I look forward to shaping Amy's experience at Elk River Lutheran to meet her goals and areas on interest. There are opportunities to experience all of the traditional components of parish life, but we are also a unique setting as an eight year old mission start (officially recognized as a congregation in 2014, born out of a split in 2009) that was served by interims for almost four years, until I arrived one year ago. It's a new start with a need for redevelopment. Since I do not feel equipped to lead this process myself, we will be bringing in an outside consultant to help us. This will provide a great opportunity for learning. This process of visioning will also include a lot of creative thinking about how we make connections within our congregation and within the community. Amy's creativity could be a great asset with that dreaming work as well.

Galilee and Minnesota Faith Chinese Lutheran Churches ELCA, Roseville, MN 55113-6923 - MAP
Our church houses two small ELCA congregations, Minnesota Faith Chinese Lutheran Church under the leadership of Pastor Shen Lin, and Galilee Lutheran Church. We have joint bilingual worship services only twice per year (Mandarin Chinese and English). However, every Sunday morning from September through May we have a joint Sunday school. All together we have an average of about twelve kids attending (ages 4-15). Sunday school and Confirmation are downstairs from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Galilee worships from 9:30-10:30, and Faith Chinese worships (during our joint Sunday School) from 11:00 – 12:00 noon. After that, MN Faith Chinese has fellowship with a meal to share. Grace Hospic, Minneapolis, MN 55405 - MAP
We would be providing many different opportunities for a student to learn all about hospice care but specifically provide opportunities for the student to be very involved in all aspects of bereavement care including: making grief support calls, making grief support visits to family members, helping to plan and conduct monthly and annual remembrance services, helping to develop a bereavement newsletter, looking at ways to partner with community resources to provide grief support to not only Grace Hospice families but to the community as well.
Grace Lutheran Church, Saint Paul, MN 55106-6199 - MAP
Grace has just celebrated 100 years of ministry. Planted in a changing neighborhood, we are about the work of discerning where God is leading us in the next 100 years. A strategic planning task force has been formed to explore possibilities for current and future ministries based on the strong foundation that has been established. This is a wonderful learning opportunity. We have an aging but beautiful building, so learning about property and fundraising would be a part of the experience at Grace. Music is a strength of Grace, so creative and interesting worship planning and leadership would be a given. We have a vital yet small children, youth, and family ministry, with enthusiastic volunteers to work with. This congregation is very generous with time, talent, and treasures, so becoming involved in our many mission and outreach ministries is a possibility. Grace is one of 8 ELCA congregations on the east side of St. Paul within a few miles of each other. We have formed a collaborative called the East Side 8 and are striving to discover ways that we can be church together. This is an exciting venture to be a part of and to learn about how churches can become partners in a close geographical area. Education is an important part of the congregation with adult education each Sunday after our one worship service. There would be opportunities to teach and lead this as well as partnering in Confirmation leadership, and connecting with Sunday School. Grace is a friendly and welcoming congregation - open to helping our future pastors learn and grow through a variety of experiences with love and support.

Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, Minneapolis, MN 55403-3240 - MAP
We are excited to work with Luther Seminary students in the life of our church! Students don’t need to be United Methodist but should be open to a Wesleyan theology and approach to ministry. CPL students will work under the direction of the Associate Pastor (a Luther alum) and Director of Children and Family Ministries. We are open to two students, and the function of the first student's top three priorities, in order, are 1. Serve as primary adult leader for 6th-7th Grade ministry (Sunday mornings and evenings, periodic weekend events). 2. Assist with Children & Family Ministries (PreK-7th), 3. assist with senior high ministries and 8th Grader Confirmation. The second student’s top three priorities would be 1. Assist with Children & Family Ministries (PreK-7th), 2. assist with senior high ministries and 8th Grader Confirmation, 3. Serve as an adult leader for 6th-7th Grade ministry. We’re open to other ways gifts and graces can shine through as an additional function (social media, event planning, etc.) so long as primary functions are taken care of first. Thank you for reading and for prayerfully discerning if HAUMC is the right fit for you.
Holy Nativity Lutheran Church, New Hope, MN 55427-1207 - MAP
As stated previously, this position is mainly a CYF position. Assisting with teaching Confirmation, leading small groups, structuring and leading our high school ministry, and helping to plan summer trips/retreats are just a few of the learning opportunities. However, in the past, we have also provided the space for students to explore other areas of ministry that interest them. For instance, one previous student lead Centering Prayer groups throughout his time with us for adults of the congregation, and he preached two Sundays of the year. Some specific goals for our time together might be: developing a more consistent high school ministry program with opportunities for fellowship, service, and continued learning; creating a more effective way of transitioning students from confirmation to high school ministry; planning and leading lock-ins or retreats; working with the CYF staff of other Wildfire churches (a collaboration of 8 churches that work together in all kinds of exciting ways) to plan and implement programming; building relationships with students, parents, and staff for the deepening of community and ministry. Seeking CYF, 15-20 hours/week, $750.00/month.

Help plan, recruit and implement our children's or youth retreats, outreach events, or camps. Discover the advantages and challenges of ministering to a large congregation.
Jacob's Well, Minneapolis, MN 55407-2807 - MAP
Jacob's Well is a 9 year old church this fall, but we still operate with a highly mission-oriented focus and are in the process of helping start a new community and of developing a process of identifying and equipping more leaders for churches like ours. Students connecting with JW would be able to see how a non-building oriented, non-established congregation operates on a weekly basis and learn how we carry out mission and vision concepts from inception to on-going growth. Students can also observe how we do experimentation for finding ways to most effectively connect with those already here, and those not part of JW yet.

There are so many opportunities for work at LCP> The most obvious learning opportunity is to work with kids and try to keep them involved and learning in a congregation that has very few young people. All opportunities for kids have to be created and "sold." There is a very supportive Youth Board who undergirds activities with kids. There is not a lot in place educationally for kids. A student could take initiative in developing and executing a confirmation curriculum. There is lots of room for creativity, the more the better. Finding ways to involve young people in their faith and learning about it, as well as in the life of the congregation needs to happen. There is also need and opportunity for finding ways to raise funds to support these activities. There is also opportunity here to help young folks understand themselves as contributing members and young leaders. This is a very important step that needs to be taken (and would be welcomed) at LCP. A student would be welcome to work with worship as well. The church is open, creative, and self-consciously trying to make its practices and worship lively, including always word and sacrament emphasis, but not requiring a staid or formulaic approach. That means that the area of music is also wide open for participation and ideas. This is a wonderful, welcoming, and grateful congregation who would enjoy and embrace a person with some energy and commitment. There is incredible opportunity here to think about broadening the mission of this congregation into a neighborhood that is not present in worship. Much work to be done in this area.

Normandale Hylands United Methodist Church, Minneapolis, MN 55437-2299 - MAP
We would like the position to focus on evangelism. To do that well, we believe it would be very helpful for the intern to learn the full context. This would include a study of the congregation and the demographics around it. To do that well, we believe that it can not be the task of the intern. It would be the task of the intern to lead the congregation to reach out in healthy, meaningful ways. To lead well, the intern would best spend time doing various dabblings. There would be opportunities for dabbling in various aspects of Pastoral Ministry to include: participating in and leading worship; participating in and leading Bible Study; leading current groups; developing new groups (for outreach)
Our Redeemer Oromo Evangelical Church, Saint Paul, MN 55108-1279 - MAP
We have a significant number of youth and children at our church. Working with youth and children at an immigrant church will help a seminarian to get experience of working in different culture from their own. Almost all of our youth and children were born in America and there is a cultural gap between them and their parents who came from Ethiopia. This is another opportunity to develop creativity toward bridging the gap between the children who speak only English and their parents who worship in Oromo language.

Large suburban congregation with many opportunities to engage in congregational care, outreach, missions, teaching and worship.
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Roseville, MN 55113-3499 - MAP
Prince of Peace is a healthy, multi-generational community of faith that centers around an active worship life, faith formation opportunities and service to the community and world. We're big enough to be doing lots of things while small enough to build generation relationships. The congregation is continuing to evolve, honoring tradition while actively seeking out new ways of being the church in an increasingly complex world. We do all the classic faith community things and are wondering where God is calling us next.
ReconcilingWorks, St Paul, Minnesota 55106 - MAP

We work for policy change at the church-wide level. We are working with mission developers to create a foundation of welcome. We travel all around the country training the Building an Inclusive Church program. We are committed to justice, equality, and equity for LGBTQ people through a Lutheran faith lens.
Redeemer Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN 55405-1290 - MAP
Redeemer is a Lutheran (ELCA) church committed to the mission of being a beacon of hope in the Harrison neighborhood of North Minneapolis. Weekly worship attendance averages 100; we have about 250 members in the traditional sense, but also consider the broader Harrison community as a key part of our constituency. The Harrison neighborhood is a historically stigmatized, multi-cultural community that is in the early phases of undergoing extensive gentrification. The worship style and culture of our congregation reflects the diversity of its surrounding community. In addition to Word and Sacrament ministry, the congregation provides various types of worship ranging from hip hop, to Holden Vespers, to gospel to the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal. In this placement, the young-adult diaconal intern will find the opportunity to explore ministry in a dynamic, innovative, urban multicultural setting.
Salem English Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55408 - MAP
Salem Lutheran is part of SpringHouse Ministry Center which is home to Lyndale UCC and First Christian Disciples of Christ in addition to Salem. Our congregations are separate and yet work together in community under one roof. (Three sanctuaries that we rotate through on a seasonal basis.) While we are three separate congregations in three separate denominations, we have joint ministries that are a testament to who we are and what we are about. One of our joint ministries is our youth ministry. We have one staff person/intern/contextual education student, who works with the youth of all three congregations. This person is responsible for programming with middle school and high school students on Sunday morning as well as programming/event based ministry - including denominational events for each congregation. They would work with the Children's Ministry Team (another joint ministry of the three congregations) to plan and implement several inter-generational educational events during the year. They would work with a team of parents on shaping youth ministry that is faithful to three distinct congregations and the neighborhood we live in. In addition, this student would have the opportunity to work with the pastoral staff of all three congregations in a mentor relationship - leading to a better understanding of working in an ecumenical context. Part of this context that makes it a challenge is also what makes it an incredible opportunity in a progressive model of church. While the primary congregation is an ELCA congregation, the opportunity to work with three distinct denominations in one ministry center allows for a significant number of unique experiences and learning opportunities. In the context of youth and family ministry our site offers a learning experience in ecumenical community and ministry.

St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Saint Paul, MN 55115-2267 - MAP
St. Andrew's is a large, vibrant congregation of 9,400 members near St. Paul. We provide a comprehensive children, youth, and family ministry program, encompassing programs from birth through young adult, including DOCK, our children's education program (600 children registered), Confirmation (325+ youth), high school peer ministry leadership (150+ youth), numerous other programs for children and youth, and opportunities for parents and families. The variety of ministries provides Luther Seminary students an opportunity to "sample" various areas of interest while learning how a comprehensive lifelong faith formation ministry can be organized. St. Andrew's recently named children, youth, and family ministry as a congregational priority, and thus it is an exciting time to be involved in a congregation seeking to improve and grow its ministries with children and youth.
St. John's Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN 55419 - MAP
Set within an urban setting with a small town feel, St. John's Lutheran is a progressive, traditional congregation at the genesis of transition. Once a booming congregation with several hundred children in Sunday School, we had only 3 children regularly in Sunday School last fall, and classes were then cancelled for the spring. Sunday School is returning in the fall and our priority is on Christian education for children, while the church leadership focuses on strategies for evangelism, marketing, social media. Youth Ministry is the next emphasis and because St. John's owns it's own retreat center in Annandale, MN it makes for a ripe place for a creative, entrepreneur Leader focused on Children and Youth Ministry. If the Seminarian was also an MDiV student, St. John's would be a wonderful place for a student to learn pastoral care, worship leading, and Administration.

I give my seminarians many opportunities to lead. There are opportunities for worship leadership, preaching, leading and organizing teams, and participating in leadership meetings. Past seminarians have told me that they had more opportunities to lead and preach at St. Matthew's than at other churches.

There would be ample opportunity to teach and preach, in both formal and informal settings; design and lead a variety of styles of worship, work in evangelism, service and justice ministries, mentor youth, and work with senior citizens, all in a multicultural setting. Unique opportunities for ministry include the free clinic in our building, and our Semilla arts program, which uses mosaics, murals, photography and writing as tools for transformation.
St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hopkins, MN 55343-7506 - MAP
St. Paul's congregation is on the move - literally! We have found ourselves to be at a critical juncture and have decided to sell our building in Minnetonka and move to a new location in downtown Hopkins. We will be renting space from Augustana Open Circle, an adult day care center. We are in the midst of trying to create a new ministry to a very diverse community with the support of our new partner congregation, Gethsemane Lutheran Church. With this we bring our passion for invitation, hospitality, participatory worship, preaching, progressive thought, revitalization/transformation, stewardship, social justice, environmental justice and education.

St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Minneapolis, MN 55424-1399 - MAP
St. Stephens' clergy leadership is new, highly collaborative, and strongly committed to implementing the missional paradigms taught at Luther. We want to empower the people of the church (including kids and families) to follow the way of Jesus outside the church buildings and in their neighborhoods. We will truly spend time with interns, helping them to learn, share their Luther learning, and be formed as Christian public leaders. Interns will be supervised by a Children's Ministry Director as well as a priest who is a recent graduate of Luther Seminary. Specific duties will include helping parishioners and staff to run Sunday school classrooms and/or children's formation opportunities on Wednesday nights, providing insight into the design of the programs, communicating with parents and staff about children's education, and helping to build a CYF training site for future seminarians.
Tapestry, Richfield, MINNESOTA (MN) 55423-3099 - MAP
Tapestry is a new development so there is opportunity for experimenting and visioning. We are building collaborative relationships with other organizations in our community. We are working with people of all ages. We would love to offer opportunities for learning about being "community in community." We will be learning together how to translate vision to reality and then how to build sustainable community. This is an ideal place for someone who wants to see how we might be church in different ways.
The Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, Minneapolis, MN 55404-2952 - MAP
Multicultural. We are in an American setting, but also seek inspiration for our work within the Church of Norway. Most of our work is done within the Norwegian American milieu in the Twin Cities, but we are in addition to this a church for many Norwegian groups and individuals who are visiting the Midwest. We also reach other parts of the Nordic American community, especially through the Leiv Eriksson International Festival which is held annually in September/October. We can offer a setting where a seminary student can learn more about how to do ministry in a different cultural setting than the mainstream American culture, and where a second language is involved. We are an ethnic congregation, and a congregation with much history. There is a strong emphasis on quality music, so a potential student will also be able to learn from our capable organist and choir director. Again our music is reflective of our cultural heritage. Our new focus in 2015/2016 is younger families and their children as we this summer hired a part-time Youth Ministry Director. We want to offer more programming to this demographic. We are also planning to grow our English Worship attendance, and are working to find out the most effective way to do this. This part of our ministry also need to connect with our Norwegian American profile.

Westminster Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis, MN 55403-2419 - MAP
The area where a student can best support and learn is in our educational ministries, and specifically adult education. A student can help to plan and discern theme and content for the year, assist in working with lay leaders and speakers, and teach, on occasion. There are also pastoral care opportunities, for visitation and reflection, as appropriate.

Zion Lutheran Church, Buffalo, Minnesota 55313 - MAP
We are a congregation of 4000+ members, about 75 students per grade level. In this opportunity, the student would have a great chance to see the workings of a large, growing edge, suburban congregation. We have an excellent staff, excellent facilities, and are poised as a hub of the community with our ministry and outreach. The student would be working closely with both pastors to facilitate the Youth ministry. There are opportunities to coordinate and empower adult leaders, facilitate mission trips and fundraisers, perhaps do some large group teaching in the confirmation program (if desired), and curate the weekly senior high youth group. We are hoping to move away from the "one man/woman show" model of youth ministry and migrate to a model where we raise up skilled and gifted teams of adults to help us engage more youth in the ministry. Seeking CYF, 20-25 hours/week, $11-12/hour.
Zion Lutheran of Cottage Grove, Cottage Grove, Minnesota 55016 - MAP
Zion is a traditional ELCA congregation with about 250 members, with a weekly worship attendance of about 80. We are looking to expand our worship service options to include a contemporary service scheduled at a time other than Sunday morning. We have many reasons for doing this, primarily as a means of outreach to weekend campers and sports enthusiasts who rarely attend worship on a Sunday morning. We are looking for a student or two who would like to explore contemporary worship in a traditional setting. The students have to be skilled instrumentalists as well as worship leaders, and able to recruit others with musical ability who are not a part of our congregation. We want the service to be solidly confessional and contemporary at the same time. It would also be an opportunity to train others in the Cottage Grove community in contemporary worship, some who may never have had much contact with a church. We have a very large high school just north of us where many of our students attend, who may come to a service that is geared to youth and the needs of youth in high school. Our community has a lot of young families who are not currently connected to a faith community, partly because their weekends from April to October are spent at the lakes or camping grounds up north. We look at this new, non-Sunday morning worship opportunity as a way to reach out to our community. Seeking CYF, 10-15 hours/week, $11/hour.
