Faculty announce retirements and departures

With recent changes at Luther Seminary comes a number of departing and retiring faculty. We will miss the leadership and spirit of these people, many of whom have served here for decades. We look forward to honoring them in the coming months.

  • Terry Fretheim, Elva B. Lovell Professor of Old Testament, 47 years of service
  • Fred Gaiser, Professor of Old Testament and Editor, Word and World, 40 years of service
  • Gracia Grindal, Professor of Rhetoric, 30 years of service
  • Roland Martinson, Dean of Academics, 36 years of service
  • Paul Westermeyer, Professor of Church Music, 23 years of service

Faculty who plan to take other calls by June 30, 2013

  • Carla Dahl, Professor of Congregational and Community Care Leadership, 2 years of service
  • Mary Hinkle Shore, Professor of New Testament, 16 years of service
  • Chris Scharen, Assistant Professor of Worship is becoming the Director of Contextual Learning at Luther Seminary on April 1, 2013

Faculty who plan to retire or leave on June 30, 2014

  • Paul Chung, Associate Professor of Mission and World Christianity, 5 years of service on contract
  • Richard Nysse, Professor of Old Testament, 36 years of service
