Pentecost is a season of listening, breathing, and being led by God—when Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit is realized, and the church is filled with its power.
It’s a time of new discoveries, of learning to speak in new ways so that we can proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to those around us, of creating Christian communities that are witnesses to God’s justice and mercy.
In many ways, we find ourselves in a moment not unlike our first forebears in faith. Our culture grows increasingly disconnected from traditional structures of church, and so we must be ever more reliant on the renewal and revitalization of the Holy Spirit to show us the path ahead.
At Luther Seminary, we’ve started asking new questions and have been delighted by the discoveries we’re making. Perhaps you might benefit from asking them in both your congregational life and personal faith formation practice!
- Where is God already at work here (in this neighborhood, congregation, or moment)?
- How is God calling us to join in the work God is already doing?
- Where is the Holy Spirit calling us to make new connections and form new relationships?
- What does it mean to be deeply grounded in Christian identity and practice in a pluralistic world?
- What must we let go of in order to make space for the new life the Spirit will bring?
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
Grace and peace,
Robin J. Steinke, President
