Christian bookstore Hearts and Minds recently awarded the 2012 Best Book on Youth Ministry award to Andrew Root, Carrie Olson Baalson Chair of Youth and Family Ministry. The honor was bestowed on Root’s “Taking Theology to Youth Ministry” (Zondervan).
The Hearts and Minds staff says: “[Taking Theology to Youth Ministry] is well written, as a bit of a novel. It is fun, and I trust appealing to those who need it most, to see this device of a story. The book is about the quandary of Nadia, who is in a position at a church with different ‘factions’ of parents who want somewhat different things from the youth program at her church. What is youth ministry, and what is it for, after all? What’s the point? I think the answer to this million dollar question is too often presumed and not often enough asked directly, and I applaud the fictional Nadia (and her clever, prodigious creator, Andrew Root) for asking the big theological question.”
