It’s been nearly 10 years since Pat Lehrer, ’04, graduated from seminary and began her ministry, and her Luther education still provides a strong foundation for her work. Now serving as a pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas, she continues to support Luther and stay connected by serving on the Alumni Council.
“I remember and cherish the years spent as a student at Luther Seminary. The quality of teaching and the passion of the professors equipped me well to serve as a pastor in a congregation. Especially important for my ministry are the courses in biblical studies and the training in missional leadership. Learning to interpret Scripture in light of our changing world goes hand-in-hand with leading congregations in discerning what God is up to in this time and this place. My seminary education would be lacking if one of these two key pieces was missing.
Luther Seminary is more than the sum of its individual course offerings and professors. The entire Luther community—faculty, staff and students—working together is what makes the seminary a place that does, indeed, ‘educate leaders for Christian communities called and sent by the Holy Spirit to witness to salvation through Jesus Christ and to serve in God’s world.’
The major financial challenges in the past year mean that donor support is more crucial than ever. My husband and I choose to give to the Luther Seminary Sustaining Fund, trusting that the institution will use our money wisely and where it is most needed. We believe completely in the mission of Luther Seminary now and for generations of missional leaders yet to come. That is why we have also included the seminary in our estate plans.”
