Dr. Diane Jacobson currently serves as director of the Book of Faith Initiative for the ELCA.  She is also professor emeritus of Old Testament at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, MN where she taught from 1982-2010.  Jacobson is a frequent speaker throughout the Church, including the 2011 Churchwide Assembly, the LWF 50th Anniversary Assembly in Hong Kong,  and numerous synodical assemblies, rostered leaders gatherings, and churchwide consultations. 
Jacobson's main academic areas of teaching and publishing have been in Wisdom and Psalms.  She most recently written the 2012 Book of Faith Lenten Devotional, Water Marks and co-authored both the upcoming Book of Faith Adult study on Ruth (with David Vasquez) and Opening the Book of Faith: Lutheran Insights for Bible Study (2008 with Mark Allan Powell and Stan Olson).  Jacobson's other recent publications include "Job as a Theologian of the Cross," Word and World 31:4  Fall 2011: 374-380 and an article on Wisdom Language in the Psalms in the upcoming Oxford Book of Psalms (edited by William Brown,2012). Jacobson served on the consulting board and as a contributor to the Lutheran Study Bible (2009). 
Jacobson is, first and foremost, a lover of Scripture. "I'm in love with this Book," she says. "My calling is to teach Scripture for the sake of God's world, and to invite others into the wonders and rewards of exploring the Bible together."

Jacobson's other writings include: A Beginner's Guide to the Bible, co-authored with Robert Kyser (1991), the 1997 Lutheran Woman Today Bible Study, From Slavery to Service: A Study of Exodus, several chapters in the 2006 LWF study Witnessing to God's Faithfulness: Issues of Biblical Authority, and numerous articles on such topics as wisdom, creation and psalms.
