A few months ago, I hit a wall, exhausted from [work/parenting/life... take your pick]. I'd just strapped my 2-year-old, Evelyn, into her highchair and stepped into the kitchen to get her something to eat when I stopped, stooped, placed hands on knees and sighed. Loudly.
Evelyn noticed. She said, "Daddy?" "What now?" I thought, but managed to say, "Yes?" She said, "Point to the lights." Confused, I stood and pointed to one ceiling light. Then another, then another. "Evelyn, there are lights all over." She nodded. "Yes, Daddy. There are lights everywhere."
The lights, of course, were there all along. I just needed a messenger (a little light of the world) to point them out, to put some cracks in the wall for light to break through and help me "arise" from stooped to standing.
What does your posture look like? Or your neighbors'? Look up: The lights are all around, and the light of Christ has come. Point to him.
Prayer
God, thanks for your light, and for the ones who point it out in our midst. Stand us up to see your light, and to point and show forth your glory. Amen.
