Love Has Come (Evangelical Lutheran Worship 292)
1 Love has come
—a light in the darkness!
Love shines forth in the Bethlehem skies.
See, all the heaven has come to proclaim it;
hear how their song of joy arises:
Love! Love!
Born unto you, a Savior!
Love! Love!
Glory to God on high.
2 Love is born!
Come, share in wonder.
Love is God now asleep in the hay.
See the glow in the eyes of his mother; what is the name her heart is saying?
Love! Love!
Love is the name she whispers;
Love! Love!
Jesus, Immanuel.
3 Love has come and never will leave us!
Love is life everlasting and free.
Love is Jesus within and among us.
Love is the peace our hearts are seeking.
Love! Love!
Love is the gift of Christmas.
Love! Love!
Praise to you, God on high!

Devotion
This hymn begins by proclaiming that “Love has come—a light in the darkness!” While thinking about this, I recalled my Confirmation and the Bible verse I selected: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16) As a chaplain, pastor, and missionary, I have shared that verse with thousands around the world, so that they may know that God comes to be with them also.
The second verse proclaims another beautiful truth about God´s love: “It will never leave us.” It is an indwelling gift that is accompanied by the power of the Holy Spirit to create and strengthen faith within our hearts, souls, and minds that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and to give us eternal hope for each new day. This is truly a forever-gift!
Prayer
God, we thank you for your love for us and for bringing your Son, Jesus Christ, into our world. Strengthen our faith in him, so that we may share your love and our faith with others peacefully, so that the sin and darkness of the world is replaced with your light and truth. Amen.
