Psalm 85:8-13 (NRSV)

Verse 8Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.
Verse 9Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.
Verse 10Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other.
Verse 11Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky.
Verse 12The Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase.
Verse 13Righteousness will go before him, and will make a path for his steps.
Devotion
As we trust in God’s steadfast love, God gives us grace and comfort to believe in God’s promises to give us what is good. As we adore and fear God, we are given salvation and can share with other people the hope for God’s gracious gift.
The psalmist’s confidence that God will speak peace to his people encourages my faithfulness. As I share this good news with others, I am encouraged by their eager hearing and intent response. Our faith will thus increase and grow in love for God and our love for others. God will not limit the gift of peace and understanding for those who trust the promise. As I challenge myself to reach out to others, the Lord will provide courage for me to continue in his promises: “Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other.”
Prayer
Heavenly God, thank you for all you give us! Grace, Comfort, Hope, Peace, Understanding, and Courage! Praise to you Heavenly Father! Amen.
