Luther Seminary is pleased to announce that three faculty members have been named to endowed chairs. Kathryn Schifferdecker has been appointed to the Elva B. Lovell Chair in Old Testament, Lois Malcolm to the Olin and Amanda Fjelstad Registad Chair for Systematic Theology, and Mark Granquist to the Lloyd and Annelotte Svendsbye Chair in Church History.
Each of the scholars was appointed because of their exemplary teaching, scholarship, and dedication to the church through their work in their respective fields.
“Through their devoted work, these faculty members reflect the core of Luther Seminary’s mission, vision, and values,” said Robin J. Steinke, president of Luther Seminary. “Their commitment to their scholarship and their students has inspired generations of church leaders to live faithfully into their vocations.”
Dirk G. Lange, academic dean, added, “Professors Malcolm, Schifferdecker, and Granquist embody in their teaching and scholarship a gospel-centered and student-focused approach. They are wonderful colleagues who make Luther Seminary a vibrant and creative learning community.”
The faculty members’ appointments will go into effect beginning in the 2019-20 academic year. Of particular note is that Lois Malcolm’s appointment makes her the first woman to be named to a chair in systematic theology in the seminary’s 150-year history.
