Janet L. Ramsey, professor emeritus of pastoral theology and ministry, is author of “Dignity and Grace: Wisdom for Caregivers and Those Living With Dementia,” published by Fortress Press. The book draws on her experience as a pastor, teacher, therapist, and family caregiver.
Written for both caregivers and those with impaired memories, the book explores the importance of dignity and grace and encourages readers to think about what hope looks like in the lives of caregivers and people living with dementia. The chapters include topics such as dignity as accompaniment, grace in everyday life, and tough hope.
“Like other books about dementia, Ramsey’s work offers many practical approaches to issues like communication strategies,” writes Susan McFadden, professor emerita of psychology at University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh. “However, unlike any I have read, she relates how the practices of giving and receiving dementia care can support and sustain spiritual resiliency.”
