Isaiah 44:21-23 (NRSV)
Read Isaiah 44:21-23 on biblegateway.com
Verse 21Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you, you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me. Verse 22I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud, and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you. Verse 23Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it; shout, O depths of the earth; break forth into singing, O mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and will be glorified in Israel.
Devotion
Just do it! we say when patience runs out. Isaiah's patience has been rewarded: "Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it!" He writes from the future when Israel is returned from exile. His future is our past, but we sing the same exuberant song, "For the Lord has done it." Hurrah! The Lord has done it-for us! And we'll never be the same again.
Prayer
Gracious God, we thank you that this whole drama in Bethlehem took place for us. Amen.
